The Earth – planet of fear…

fear

Two social scientists living in Agadorie, Ladoger and Hipeer decided to describe and publish their observations about life on other planets. Because the Earth is closest to their heart, they began their research was from this planet. Together they spent on Earth over ten years gathering information on topics of interest to them.

Ladoger was very interested in the reactions of people to various external factors affecting human behaviour. He was interested in what the reaction of different colours triggers such that the reaction causes different sounds. What is received nicely and what causes dislike? What do people like to do and what they are hurt the most? From what is most proud of and what they are wanting to forget? What put them in amazement, and what situations are problematic for people? Handsome, tall Ladoger very quickly was found the person in conversation. No one was able to resist his charms. In addition, when he goes into the discussion it was clear in his face a very deep interest in what united him with the caller. Sometimes the conversation concerned the unpleasant things. In these moments, worried face Ladeger and provoked sincere beliefs.

Whereas Hipeer was the most interested in the fears of people. He observed that mankind on Earth lives in permanent fear. For Hipeer common fear in a society which he met on Earth did not allow him to circumvention this issue and didn’t think too long he picks up a study of this phenomenon. On Agadorie fear is almost non-existent. Widespread globalization, massive support in almost every sphere of life including the joint development program and a system of incentives for the active life does not cause the Agadorie feelings of fear. So he decided to deepen their knowledge of the factors that necessitate information invoking fear? Why do people scare each other without any reason? Hipper as a grey-headed man was arousing much confidence in his person. He had no difficulty with making new friends, and, like Ladeger could listen. There is not a common feature between humans. Probably for this and his interlocutors were sincere in their statements when they were talking to Hipeer.

Because both researchers were interested in the related topic, very often met and exchanged their observations. On meeting took a liking to a small town on the east coast of Italy. They had a habit of sitting in the cosy cafe with a view of the sea. They could enjoy spending out there for hours on discussions about their observations. A known waiter long ago recognized the habits of both men and serviced them so well that sometimes Hipeer and Ladoger thought that he is reading them in their minds.

“I’ve always wondered how people can live in perpetual fear?” Asked Hipeer his friend Ladoger one day.

“To tell the truth I’ve no idea how they cope with that my friend,” Hipeer added deep in thought.

“What do you exactly have in mind while asking that?” Answered Ladoger with another question.

“Take a look. I have conducted my observations on so many residents of this globe that I doubt this is a single case. I find this as much interesting and puzzling as terrifying.” Started Hipeer, after a minute of thinking he added. “People on Earth live in constant fear, from the moment they are born to the moment of their death. This much I have seen and observed, but I still cannot understand one thing. How can they live in such conditions?”

“Indeed this is not the most optimistic way of living I admit.” Agreed with Ladoger and quickly added out of curiosity. “As I am a bit out of your field of research can you add something more to your statement? Share your observations with me?”

“Yes, of course, it will be my pleasure.” Hipeer began and after gathering his thoughts continued.

“It is most probable that everything I observed on today’s Earth had its beginning at the moment when the life on that planet has developed. Not having much of a choice, all of the creatures living here had to fight for survival. It applied to animals of all kinds as well as prehistoric humans. Even then, from the dawn of time, fear was a constant companion. They feared not having enough food, they feared being eaten by a bigger animal they feared losing their lives. They went to sleep with fear that they will be attacked at night by some animal. They woke up with a fear that they will not find any food throughout the day. All this fear stayed in their blood in the present days. But let’s leave the prehistoric men alone for now I know that you are more interested in the present times.”

He made a quick break and taking a sip of his coffee he couldn’t ask.

“I have noticed that coffee is more to my tastes than ever these days, maybe it’s some new blend we didn’t know about?”

“I have noticed that as well, my friend, but I thought that it was only me and didn’t want to bother you with something so trivial.” Answered Ladoger with a wave of his hand.

“Well, anyway I am glad you noticed that as well, I was a bit worried that my sense of taste is beginning to change at my old age.” Laughed Hipeer and after another sip of his drink continued his earlier topic.

“Yes, let’s take a look at modern society. From the moment of birth to their death people live deep in fear, that we know, I think that many of them have grown accustomed to this fear so much that they don’t even notice that fact. Let’s take a man. An ordinary man, he hadn’t been born yet and a priest in his mothers’ local church is threatening her that if she won’t marry she will burn in hell for her sins along with her unborn child. Such things must have a negative influence on the poor fetus. Let’s fast forward a bit. Parents threaten their children from the moment it starts to walk and talk. For example “You won’t get anything unless you eat this dish!” But they did not check if it was tasty for their child. When a child is a bit older then the fear of bodily punishment is at hand. It’s way too often that mothers and fathers use a trouser belt to punish their children! Forget the households for a minute, schools aren’t good places at all either. Teachers instead of teaching, which is their job title, make children learn all by themselves threatening them with failing grades or even being expelled from school!”

At that moment Ladoger couldn’t sit quietly any longer and exclaim with great confusion lined with anger. “How people can live like that!?” He thought.

“I can’t believe that! Are you sure about all that? This sounds like some method of torture not a way of life! B-but I am sure that when humans hit adulthood the fear stops, right?”  He asked a bit hopefully.

“The fear stops? Ha! I’m sorry to disappoint you old friend but when humans reach adulthood, then the real fear begins. They fear to be jobless, they fear not being able to afford those couple of needed things, or even that a war can break out!”

At that moment Hipeer remembered about his coffee. He took a couple of sips, and while enjoying the taste looked at his friend waiter and returning his gaze to Ladoger continued his statement.

“Look at our waiter. You may think he is not afraid but I see that he is afraid and very afraid he is. No one is there to reward him for his good work. Every boss thinks that if he works correctly, that well, it’s supposed to be like that! But try and even break something. You will be noticed in seconds. And of course, punished. How it is possible to normally work in such conditions?” Finished Hipeer with a question.

“You are right Hipeer, look at Agadorie. At home, we have a very well developed system of rewards and praise. That’s how you gain your employee satisfaction from his job. If something wasn’t finished according to plan or even broken in the process the employee responsible is being accordingly signed up for additional training, to make sure he will not make the same mistakes again. No one is being punished for their mistakes because everyone knows we are not machines and that we can make mistakes. And our system works…. Very well!” Answered Ladoger.

Hipeer was more than proud of his work. To definitely finish his statement he started to count.

“Parents scare children and children scare parents. Teachers threaten pupils. Priests threaten parents, pupils and teachers. Offices scare people with high penalties. The Justice system scares people to jail or even with the death penalty. Everyone threatens everyone. Fear is omnipresent.”

Hipeer was really proud of his work, he knew that all that he presented was very interesting for Ladoger. But he was more proud of himself knowing of the possible praise his work is going to get back home.

The system on Agadorie of praise and rewards has been present for many generations. It basically consists of promoting people who are honoured by society for their work, be it scientific or in any other field. The recognition of the society is the most valuable reward anyone can dream of. The level of recognition is determined by granting suitable “points of regard”. Those who are most regarded are scientists, who are working towards increasing the general knowledge of society. Almost as high esteemed are artists, who by their works are influencing the intellectual development of the society.
